Men's Tennis Defeats the Minnesota Gophers, 5-2

Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Demon Deacons remain undefeated after a win over the Minnesota Gophers, 5-2. By claiming both singles and doubles victories, sophomore Todd Paul has claimed four consecutive wins during this weekend's matches against Virginia Commonwealth and Minnesota. The Deacs are now 5-0 on the year, while the Gophers have a record of 6-3.

In doubles play, the team of Derrick Spice and Brett Ross was defeated by Minnesota's Avery Ticer and Adrien Debreyne, 8-6. The Deacs' top-seeded singles player, Spice, lost to Ticer, 6-4, 6-7, 10-5. At the number four singles position, Ross over took Raoul Schwark, 7-6(6), 6-4.
 

 

Wake's second-seeded doubles team of Paul and Marius Adamski took out Nic Edlefsen and Brian Lipinski, 8-5. Paul won his second singles victory of the weekend after defeating Edlefsen, 6-3, 6-2. Adamski clinched a win at the number five singles spot, 6-2, 6-0, against Minnesota's Lipinski.

The doubles duo of Liron Strauss and Andrew Hamar defeated Schwark and Sion Wilkins, 8-5. In singles action, Hamar took out Debreyne, 7-6(6), 6-3. Wake's sixth-seed, Strauss, fell to Wilkins, 6-4, 7-6(5).

Wake Forest resumes play next Sunday, February 20, against Brown University at 1:00pm in the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center. Brown currently has a record of 7-2 for the season. The Brown Bears will take on Navy next Saturday before their match against the Deacs on Sunday afternoon.
