Men's Tennis Clinches a Victory Over No. 14 Virginia Commonwealth

Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Demon Deacons clinched their fourth consecutive match of the season against Virginia Commonwealth, 4-3. By winning four out of the six singles matches, Wake Forest got the edge over the undefeated and No. 14 ranked team in the nation. The Deacs are now 4-0 on the year, while VCU has a record of 8-1.

In doubles play, the team of Derrick Spice/Brett Ross was defeated by VCU's Arnaud Lecloerec/Daniel Lohff, 9-8(4). Spice, the Deacs' top-seeded singles player, lost to Lecloerec in three-sets, 3-6, 7-6(9), 6-3. Wake's Ross defeated Lohff, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

At the number two doubles spot, Todd Paul/MariusAdamski took out Sergi Arumi/Francesc Lleal, 8-4. Paul added another singles victory for the Deacs after defeating Lleal, 6-3, 6-2. Also in singles play, Adamski defeated VCU's Sebastian Ripoll in three sets, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3.

The doubles duo of Liron Strauss/Paul Hamar fell to VCU's team of Marton Ott/Ripoll, 8-3. In singles action, Hamar knocked off Arumi, 6-0, 6-2. Wake's Charles Sartor, the sixth seed, lost to Damien Lacombe, 7-5, 6-2.
 

 

Wake Forest plays their second match of the weekend on Sunday against Minnesota at 1:00pm in the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center. The Minnesota Gophers will face VCU on Saturday in Winston-Salem before taking on the Deacs on Sunday. Minnesota currently has a record of 2-2 for the season.
