Results

Winston-Salem, N.C. -  Todd Paul and Cory Parr nailed down victories against top-20 opponents as Wake Forest defeated 55th-ranked Old Dominion, 5-2, on Sunday at the Wake Forest University Indoor Tennis Center.

In a match-up of top ten players, the fourth-ranked Paul eased past seventh-ranked Harel Srugo 6-2, 6-3. The most impressive victory of the day, though, came at number two singles. Sophomore Cory Parr figures to enter the national rankings for the first time following his 7-6, 6-3 victory against 18th-ranked Henrique Cancado.

The Deacons (5-0) earned victories at numbers four, five and six where Mariusz Adamski, Steven Forman and Jason Morgenstern all picked up straight set wins.

Old Dominion (1-2) got off to a hot start by capturing the doubles point. The teams split the matches at one and three leaving it up to the number two position to decide the point. In an emotionally-charged match between Wake Forest's Parr and Charles Sartor and ODU's Alex Seleznev and Eidy Igarashi, the Monarch rallied from a 7-3 deficit to force a tiebreaker. Old Dominion capitalized on the opportunity by winning the tiebreaker and claiming a 1-0 early lead.

The Deacons won five of six singles matches against the Monarchs and have won 27 of 30 singles as a team this spring.

Wake Forest returns to action next weekend at home against three highly-ranked opponents. On Friday, the Deacons play 12th-ranked VCU at 5:00 p.m. Wake Forest hosts 32nd-ranked Minnesota and 46th-ranked East Tennessee on Sunday.
