Men's Tennis Sweeps East Tennessee State

Winston-Salem, NC - The Wake Forest men's tennis team opened its 2005 season victorious, with a 7-0 sweep of the East Tennessee State Bucs. The Deacon duos of Derrick Spice and Brett Ross, Todd Paul and Marius Adamski, and Andrew Hamar and Liron Strauss captured each of their doubles matches by no less than two points and they all clinched their singles matches in just two sets. The Deacons are now 1-0 on the year, while the Bucs fall to 2-2.
 

 

Top-seeded singles player Derrick Spice took out ETSU's Fernando Fiuri, 7-5, 6-3. Spice and Ross, playing in the number one slot for doubles, crushed Oscar Posada and Felix Insaurralde, 8-2. Ross claimed his individual match against Moises Serrano at the No.2 slot, 6-1, 7-6.

Todd Paul, the 2004 ACC Freshman of the Year, beat Insaurralde, 6-2, 6-3, while Adamski handled Daniel Escobedo, 6-3, 6-1. Paul and Adamski teamed up at the No.2 doubles slot to defeat Fiuri and Picardo, 8-5.

Liron Strauss won his match with Sebastian Serrano, 6-1, 6-3, and his doubles partner Andrew Hamar took care of Picardo, 6-3, 6-3. The team paired up to beat Moises and Sebastian Serrano, 8-6.

Wake Forest returns to action against Old Dominion on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center. The Monarchs were 2-1 - with sweeps over Norfolk State and George Washington and a 7-0 loss last weekend to Virginia - heading into Friday's action against Duke.
