WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest Men's Tennis team began its spring season Friday, as the ACC Indoor Championships got underway at the Wake Forest University Indoor Tennis Center. The Demon Deacons came out strong, advancing five players into the third round of the singles draw and four teams to the third round of doubles competition.

David Loewenthal defeated Greg Archer from North Carolina, 6-4, 6-4 and then beat Joao Menano from Georgia Tech 6-2, 5-7, 6-2. Loewenthal, a freshman from Franklin Lakes, NJ, will take on top-seeded Andres Pedroso from Duke, Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Receiving a first-round bye, Andrew Simpson disposed of North Carolina's Aron Breziner 6-1, 6-2 to advance to the third round where the freshman from Raleigh, NC will face Duke's York Allen, Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the third round.

Mike Murray shut down the Blue Devil's Ted Rueger 6-4, 6-0 after a first round bye. Murray, a sophomore from St. Petersburg, FL, will take on Michael Duquette of Virginia Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the third round. The lone senior on the team, Raul Munoz, battled past Georgia Tech's Steven Meros 7-6 (4), 6-2 after a first round bye. Munoz, who hails from Mexico City, Mexico, will face David Cheatwood, from North Carolina at 10:30 Saturday in the third round. David Bere topped Tommy Croter of Virginia 6-3, 6-0 and Georgia Tech's Roman Coirault 6-2, 6-7 (4), 7-5 to advance to the third round Saturday, where he will meet Kevin Gottfried of Clemson at 10:30 a.m.

On the doubles side, Andrew Simpson and Rick Phillip teamed up to defeat Ben Aiken and Chad Riley of North Carolina 8-3. The Deacon duo advance to the second round to play Georgia Tech's Navinkov and Tagger Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Raul Munoz and David Loewenthal trounced Virginia's alpert and Romesburg 8-1 in the first round and advance to the second round to face Duke's Cerneko and King, Saturday at 2:30 p.m.. Mike Murray and Justin Kaufmann will take on Aguirre and Moros from Georgia Tech at 2:30 on Saturday. They received a first-round bye, as did Trent Brendon and David Bere, who will meet the second-seeded Andrews Pedroso and Ted Rueger of Duke at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
