The Wake Forest men's tennis squad was in action again on Saturday in the ACC Men's Tennis Indoor Championships at the Indoor Tennis Center.
David Loewenthal won his quarterfinal match and advanced to the semifinals, while
Trent Brendon and Loewenthal advanced to the finals in doubles.
Loewenthal faced teammate Brett Ross, winning 6-4, 7-6 (7) in the third round. Loewenthal advances to the semifinals, where he will face Virginia's Doug Stewart on Sunday at 9:00 am. Mike Murray fell 6-3, 6-2 to Florida State's Matt Cloer in the quarterfinals.
In the consolation bracket, Andrew Simpson won 6-4, 0-6, 6-4 in the first round, before falling 5-7, 7-6 (2), 7-5 in the second round. Mirko Ivanda was eliminated in the first round, while Derrick Spice withdrew from play due to an injury. Brian Murphy advanced to the second round, before falling to Rodrigo Laub of Florida State in the quarterfinals, 6-1, 6-1. After receiving a first round bye, Trent Brendon fell to North Carolina's Andy Metzler 6-1, 6-4.
In doubles play, Ross and Spice advanced in the third round, defeating Georgia Tech's pair of Joao Menano and Marko Rajavec, 8-4. The Deacon duo then faced Florida State's Cloer and Laub, falling to the Seminoles, 8-5.
Wake's Brendon and Loewenthal faced teammates Bere and Murphy in the quarterfinals, defeating the pair, 8-2. Brendon and Loewenthal then beat Florida State duo Alex Herrara and Romain Jurd 8-3 in the semifinals.
