WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- - The Wake Forest men's tennis team completed its second day of competition at the ACC Indoor Championships at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center on Saturday.
In the main singles draw, fifth-seeded Andrew Hamar reached the quarterfinals with a three set victory over North Carolina's Brad Pomeroy, but was then defeated in straight sets by the number four seed, Stephen Rozek from Virginia. Rozek had reached the quarterfinals after defeating the Deacons' Todd Paul, 7-6, 6-4 in the round of 16. Brett Ross, Wake's last remaining player in the singles bracket, dropped a straight set match to sixth-seeded Jose Muguruza from Georgia Tech.
In the singles consolation bracket, Will Chewning and Andrew Simpson suffered opening round defeats, but Liron Strauss won two straight and will play Virginia's Chris Gonyer in Sunday's quarterfinals.
In doubles competition, Wake Forest's Paul and Hamar knocked off Virginia's Darin Cohen and Nick Meythaler to advance into Sunday's semfinals where they will face teammates Ross and Derrick Spice who took an 8-3 win over UVA's Marko Miklo and Stephen Rozek.
The final day of the ACC Indoor Championships will begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday in Winston-Salem.
