Kona, Hawaii - The 23rd-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis began spring competition this weekend at the Hilton Waikaloa Kona Invitational participating in mock dual matches where results count toward individual standings, but not for the overall team record.

On Saturday the Demon Deacons squared off against six members of the 13th-ranked Texas A&M team and a few Illinois individuals. Two of four doubles teams were victorious for Wake Forest and four of eight singles players won their matches. David Loewenthal and Derrick Spice won their singles matches in straight sets and Brian Murphy and Brett Ross battled past their singles opponents for wins as well.

Loewenthal and doubles partner Trent Brendon upset the 14th-ranked Aggie tandem of Lester Cook and Ante Matijevic 8-4, Mike Murray and Andrew Simpson won 8-4, and Bere teamed up with Brian Murphy to capture an 8-4 doubles win as well.

Taking on No. 2 Illinois on Sunday, Wake Forest only managed one doubles victory against the Fighting Illini as Spice and Ross took out Ryler DeHeart and Chris Martin 8-3.

The Demon Deacons face No. 73 Oregon today in their final match.
