Scott Briggs begins his first year with the Demon Deacon tennis program. He comes to Wake Forest from Davidson College where he spent six seasons on the coaching staff. He was the associate head coach for men's tennis from 2005-06 and the assistant coach from 2000-05.
Briggs also served as the women's tennis team's interim head coach in 2005. He guided the Wildcats to the program's all-time highest ranking (#53), the program's first and second wins over ranked opponents and a runner-up finish in the Southern Conference Tournament.
At Davidson, Briggs coached five all-conference players and the Southern Conference Women's Tennis Freshman of the Year.
"Scott is a welcome addition to the program," Zinn said. "He brings quite a bit of coaching experience. He relates well to the players and he'll make a huge positive impact."
Briggs played collegiately at Davidson from 1995-99. He was a two-year captain and a two-time Southern Conference first team selection. Briggs was a part of Davidson's 1997 Southern Conference regular season championship team. As a senior, Briggs was named the team's Most Valuable Player.
Briggs graduated from Davidson in 1999 with a degree in biology with a concentration in medical humanities. He was a four-year member of the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll and a GTE National Student-Athlete Scholarship Nominee. After graduating from Davidson, he worked for one year in the Duke University biomedical department doing research on heart disease.
A native of Winter Haven, Fla., Briggs is married to the former Megan Suzanne Shafer, who graduated from Davidson in 2003 and Wake Forest University School of Law in 2006. She is an attorney in Greensboro.
