Three Wake Forest Men's Soccer Players Earn NSCAA All-America Honors

Dec. 14, 2004

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Three Wake Forest men's soccer players, headlined by junior forward Justin Moose, have been selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas All-America team, the organization announced Monday. Moose was named to the first team while senior forward Scott Sealy and junior defender Michael Parkhurst were second team selections.

For Parkhurst, it is his second straight appearance on the All-America second team, but Moose is Wake Forest's second-ever NSCAA first team All-America selection. William Hesmer was named first team last season.

Other Deacons to earn NSCAA honors include Neil Covone (3rd team in 1988 and 1989), Todd Renner (2nd team in 1988 and 1989), Serge Daniv (3rd team in 1995), Aaron Thomas (2nd team in 2001), White (3rd team in 2001, 2nd team in 2003), Brian Carroll (3rd team in 2002) and Hesmer (2nd team in 2002, 1st team in 2003).

Moose, a forward from Statesville, N.C., was named to the NSCAA All-South first team after being awarded second team in 2003. Moose was second on the Demon Deacons in points (19) and goals (7) in 2004. Moose also earned All-ACC second team in 2004, despite missing five matches due to injury. With one year left, Moose already ranks tied for fifth all-time with 20 career assists.

Sealy, a native of Petit Valley, Trinidad, closed his Wake Forest career as one of the most prolific scorers in Demon Deacon history. He finished second on the career chart for goals (43) and points (108). Sealy also finished in a tie for fourth place on the all-time assists chart with 22. He led Wake Forest in 2004 with 17 goals, 10 assists and 44 points. For his effort, he was named 2004 ACC Offensive Player of the Year and first team All-ACC. Sealy was named All-ACC second team in 2003. An All-American candidate, Sealy was named ACC Player of the Week and Soccer America Team of the Week on two occasions this season.

Parkhurst, a defender from Cranston, R.I., has now been named NSCAA All-South first team each of the past two years. He not only started all 21 matches this season, but was in the starting lineup for every match for the Demon Deacons the past three years -- a span of 62 consecutive starts at central defender. In those three seasons, Parkhurst helped the Deacs to a pair of ACC regular season titles, twice earned the top seed in the NCAA Tournament and an overall record of 44-12-6. He was named 2004 ACC Defensive Player of the Year and first team All-ACC for the second consecutive year. Parkhurst was also named NSCAA / adidas All-America second team in 2003.

Only six schools placed multiple representatives among the 38 players selected to the team. Indiana, back-to-back national champions, and Wake Forest led the way with three selections apiece.

With three more this season, the Demon Deacons have had nine All-American selections in the past four years.
