Wake Forest Faces No. 10 Seed Old Dominion In NCAA Tournament Second Round
After a 2-0 victory over No. 17 South Carolina, No. 23 Wake Forest travels to No. 10 seed Old Dominion for a second round match in the 2005 NCAA Tournament. The Deacons and Monarchs will kickoff Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. at ODU Soccer Stadium. With a victory, the Demon Deacons would advance into the third round and face the winner of No. 7 seed California/Santa Clara. If California proves victorious, the match would take place in Berkeley, but a Santa Clara victory could place a possible third round match in Winston-Salem.

Last Year's Result
After earning a first round bye, top seed Wake Forest routed UCF, 5-0, in the second round. The Demon Deacons then faced VCU in the third round, but the Rams advanced into the quarterfinals on penalty kicks.
Deacons in the NCAA Tournament
Wake Forest is making its fifth straight and 10th overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Demon Deacons are 5-8-1 all-time and have played just one road game in the event. Tuesday night's match against Old Dominion is the Deacs' first road match in the postseason since 1990 when North Carolina edged the Deacs, 2-1, in Chapel Hill.
The program has advanced to the round of 16 three times, first in 1989, then in 2002 and again last year. Wake Forest was the tournament's top seed last season and 2002. Eight of the ACC's nine teams made the tournament field, including six that were among the NCAA Tournament's top-16 seeds. The two unseeded ACC teams, Wake Forest and Clemson, each moved into the second round. Eleven of Wake Forest's regular season opponents made the NCAA Tournament, including three non-conference opponents. The complete list includes Clemson, Duke, Indiana, Maryland, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Notre Dame, South Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech and UNC Greensboro. Scouting the Monarchs
Old Dominion, which was an at-large selection after losing the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament championship, is aiming to advance to the 3rd round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. Last season, the Monarchs were eliminated in the second round by ACC foe Duke, 2-1, in overtime. Old Dominion will enter this contest sporting the CAA's Player of the Year in Brian Cvilikas, Rookie of the Year in Trevor Banks and Coach of the Year in Alan Dawson. In addition, senior Trevor McEachron, junior Edson Elcock and senior goalie John Connelly are CAA first team selections. Cvilikas leads the CAA with 15 goals. He also ranks in the nation's top 10. Connelly has recorded 11 shutouts and sports a 0.60 goals against average -- ranking eighth in the NCAA. Trevor Banks (15), Elcock (12) and Ross Mackenzie (12) have eached contributed 10 or more points.
Series History With Old Dominion
Wake Forest leads the all-time series with the Monarchs, 8-2-0, but Old Dominion captured the last meeting in 2003. The Demon Deacons have played Old Dominion twice in NCAA Tournament history (2002, 1989). The Deacs are 22-10-4 all-time against current members of the Colonial Athletic Association.

Last Meeting With Old Dominion
The fifth-ranked Wake Forest men's soccer team was defeated 2-0 at sixth-ranked Old Dominion on Sept. 23, 2003. The Deacons had not been shutout by a non-conference team since the 2001 NCAA Tournament, a stretch of 17 games. Old Dominion scored both their goals in the second half of the contest. The Monarchs scored the game's first goal in the 66th minute and tacked on another in the 89th minute for the victory. The Monarchs outshot the Deacons 13-11. Wake Forest earned nine corner kicks in the second half alone but couldn't convert on its opportunities.
Last NCAA Tournament Meeting With Old Dominion
First team All-ACC forward Jeremiah White scored with 2:08 remaining in regulation as the top-seeded Wake Forest men's soccer team defeated Old Dominion 1-0 at Spry Stadium on Nov. 27, 2002. The Deacons advanced to the Sweet 16 for the third time in school history. The Deacons (15-1-4) created many quality scoring opportunities and outshot the Monarchs by a 20-5 margin. Old Dominion held the fort for almost 88 minutes before Wake Forest broke through. Goalkeeper William Hesmer needed to make just one save to post the team's 11th shutout of the season.
