Deacons Earn #1 Seed in NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament

Winston-Salem, N.C. - The top-ranked Wake Forest men's soccer team received the top seed to the 2002 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament when the brackets were revealed on Monday afternoon. The Deacons get a first round bye in the field of 48.

Wake Forest (14-1-4) will host a second round contest on Wednesday, November 27 at 6:00 p.m. at Spry Stadium against the winner of the Old Dominion-Richmond first round game.

Wake Forest faced both teams earlier this season on the road. On September 7, Wake Forest defeated ODU by a 2-1 score and beat the Spiders on September 18 in Richmond, 2-0.

The Deacons are in the tournament for the third time in four years. It is the school's seventh overall appearance.

Of Wake Forest's 19 games this season, 13 were played against teams that were selected to the tournament. The Deacons posted a record of 8-1-4 against those teams which include Akron, Clemson, Duke, Maryland, North Carolina, Old Dominion, Richmond, St. John's, Saint Louis, South Carolina, Virginia and William & Mary.
