Junior Michael Parkhurst Honored by Soccer America

Nov. 3, 2004

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest junior defender Michael Parkhurst was named to the Soccer America Team of the Week on Wednesday. Parkhurst has been vital as the Demon Deacons have captured nine consecutive matches and posted four straight shutouts before surrendering a goal Tuesday night.

Parkhurst not only continued his stellar play in the back for Wake Forest last week, but also extended his streak of consecutive starts to 58 matches. The All-American and Hermann Award candidate carried the Demon Deacons to four consecutive shutouts as Wake Forest did not allow a single goal over a span of 499:34. Demon Deacon foes averaged only four shots per game over the four match scoreless streak. In fact, the Demon Deacons have allowed merely two goals in the past 808:25 -- a span of dating back to Oct. 2.

The Demon Deacons close the regular season Friday evening at Duke. Kickoff at Koskinen Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. A victory or tie in the match with the Blue Devils would secure Wake Forest's second ACC Regular Season Championship in the past three years and the top seed in next week's ACC Tournament. Duke leads the all-time series with the Demon Deacons, 17-10-5, but Wake Forest has captured the last six meetings.
