2002 Schedule

June 4, 2002

Winston-Salem, NC -- The 2002 Wake Forest men's soccer schedule was announced on Monday. The slate includes eight teams from last year's NCAA Tournament field including College Cup participants St. John's and North Carolina. The Demon Deacons will host four of those teams this fall at Spry Stadium.

"We wanted to put together a challenging schedule that would help us prepare for the rigors of the ACC, the best conference in the country, and the NCAA Tournament. We have done exactly that," head coach Jay Vidovich said.

The Deacons kick off the season with two games over Labor Day Weekend at the UNC Nike Classic in Chapel Hill. Wake Forest plays two 2001 NCAA tournament qualifers at the event, St. Louis on Friday, August 30 and Akron on Sunday September 1.

Fans at Spry Stadium will get their first look at the Deacons on September 10 against Charleston Southern. The team's ACC opener is on September 14 against Virginia.

The home schedule is also highlighted by Maryland, Clemson and South Carolina. Wake Forest will travel to in-state rivals North Carolina, Duke and NC State and also make a trip to Jamaica, N.Y. to face 2001 College Cup semifinalist St. John's.

The ACC Tournament will be held November 14-17 at SAS Stadium in Cary, N.C.

The Demon Deacons return eight starters and several key reserves from last year's 13-6-2 squad that reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Among those returning are All-American Jeremiah White, who scored 15 goals and seven assists last year, All-South midfielder Brian Carroll and second team All-ACC goalkeeper William Hesmer.
