Scott Sealy Called Up To Trinidad & Tobago's Olympic Qualifying Team

Wake Forest junior men's soccer player Scott Sealy has been called up to the Trinidad & Tobago Under-23 National Team, in their efforts to qualify for the 2004 Athens Olympics. In addition, former Deacon All-American midfielder Brian Carroll has been selected to the United States U-23 Olympic Team.

Sealy, a second team All-ACC pick in 2003 and native of Petit Valley, Trinidad, was Wake Forest's leading scorer in 2003 with 11 goals and four assists. He was one of 31 players selected by national coach Stuart Charles Fevrier as Trinidad & Tobago intensifies preparations for the final round of qualifying to take place next month for the 2004 Olympics.

Carroll, a native of Springfield, Va., is now with the D.C. United. He did not see any MLS game action, however, he did play in the U.S. Open Cup for the United and friendly match appearances.
 

 

Trinidad & Tobago will face host nation Mexico in the opening match of Group B action on February 2 at the Estadio Jalisco in Guadalajara. Trinidad & Tobago then plays Costa Rica on February 4 and Jamaica on February 6. Following one round of matches against each other, the top two teams from the group will advance to the semifinals to face the top two teams from Group A which consists of Panama, United States, Honduras and Canada. The two finalists will earn automatic berths for the 2004 Olympics.

The American U-23 squad, coached by Mooch Myernick, will first face Panama on February 3, followed by matches against Canada on February 5 and Honduras on February 7. All three U.S. opening round matches in Group A will be played at the 10,000-seat Estadio Tres de Marzo (in the Zapopan area of Guadalajara) and kickoff at 8 p.m. (local central time).
