Winston-Salem, N.C. - The largest regular season crowd in Spry Stadium history watched the fifth-ranked Wake Forest men's soccer team put on a show in a 4-0 victory against third-ranked North Carolina on Saturday night. A crowd of 3,868 saw the Demon Deacons win their seventh straight game and extend their regular season home unbeaten streak to 27 games.

More importantly, Wake Forest moves into a tie with Virginia for second place in the Atlantic Coast Conference standings at 3-2. Wake Forest improves to 11-3 overall while North Carolina slips to 11-2-3, 2-2-1 in the ACC.

Jeremiah White had two goals for the Deacons, Tomy Szczypiorski chipped in one goal and one assist and Vicente Bastidas had two helpers.



 
Wake Forest took a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute on a header by Tomy Szczypiorski. Steven Curfman curled a perfect cross from the left sideline into Szczypiorski's path in the penalty area. The goal was Szczypiorski's sixth of the season and gave Curfman his team leading sixth assist.

The score remained unchanged through halftime and well into the second half until Jeremiah White scored the first of his two goals. His score came at the 68:02 mark with an assist to Vicente Bastidas. Less than five minutes later, White struck again with his second of the night and fifth of the season. Bastidas and Scott Sealy earned the assists.

Freshman Mark Ellington wrapped up the scoring in the 89th minute. He scored from an impossible angle along the endline. James Riley played a ball to Szczypiorski at the top corner of the penalty box. Szczypiorski's shot curled wide of the goalkeeper and the goal but stayed in play. Ellington ran onto it and fired into the upper netting for his first Wake Forest goal. He became the 16th different player to score a goal for the Demon Deacons this season.

Senior All-American goalkeeper William Hesmer made two saves to pick up his fifth shutout of the season.

The Wake Forest offense has come to life in the month of October with 24 goals in the last six games, an average of four goals per contest against teams that include South Carolina, Clemson, North Carolina.

Wake Forest is now 5-4-3 all-time at Spry Stadium against teams ranked in the top five. The Deacons have defeated a top five team at home in each of the last three seasons.

Wake Forest will play its final ACC regular season game of the year next Friday, October 31st against Duke. Kickoff at Spry Stadium is set for 7:00 p.m. North Carolina returns home to play Clemson next weekend.
