Wake Forest Downs Clemson 3-2

Oct. 19, 2003

Final Stats

Clemson, S.C. - The sixth-ranked Wake Forest men's soccer team downed the Clemson Tigers by a score of 3-2 on Sunday. The Demon Deacons improved their record to 9-3, 2-2 ACC while the Tigers fell to 5-6-2 on the year and 1-3 in the conference.

The Deacons struck early when junior Amir Lowery tallied his first goal of the season less than a minute and a half into the action. Lowery knocked in a header off a corner kick by freshman Steven Curfman.

WFU stretched the lead to two goals at 30 minutes into the game when Lowery connected with junior Scott Sealy who beat a defender and the goal keeper and netted his team-leading fifth goal on the year.

The Deacs then added a goal at the 37:02 mark in the first half when senior Wiggy Saunders rebounded a Sealy miss to give the Deacons a 3-0 lead going into halftime. The goal marked Saunders' first of the year.

In the second half, Clemson finally got on the board at the 56:22 mark when Adrian Chevannes scored his first goal on the year on a feed from Justin Moore. The Tigers cut the Deacon lead to one when James Georgeff scored his second on the year with 18 minutes left in the action.

The Tigers were unable to tie the score as the Deacon defense limited Clemson to just two shots in the final 18 minutes with senior goalkeeper William Hessmer making a save to preserve the win.

The Deacons return to Spry Stadium on Wednesday against Gardner-Webb at 7 pm. The Deacs will then host North Carolina in conference action on Saturday night.
