Final Stats

CLEMSON, S.C. - Amir Lowery and Scott Sealy both scored one goal and had one assist each in leading sixth-ranked Wake Forest to a 3-2 win over Clemson in an Atlantic Coast Conference men's soccer match at Clemson, SC Sunday afternoon.

With the win, Wake Forest improves to 9-3 overall, 2-2 in the ACC. Clemson falls to 5-6-2 overall and 1-3 in league play.

Wake Forest took an early 1-0 lead at the 1:25 mark. Steven Curfman sent a corner kick in the box and Lowery headed the ball into the net. This was his first goal of the year, it was Curfman's fifth assist of the season.

The Deacons took a 2-0 advantage with 30:43 gone in the match. Lowery sent the ball to Scott Sealy who sent a shot in the goal near the right post. This was Sealy's fifth goal this year.

Wiggy Saunders made the score 3-0 at the 37:02 point into the match when he knocked in a rebound from close range after a scrabble in front of the goal. Sealy was credited with the assist. It was Saunders' first goal this season.

Clemson made a dramatic comeback in the second half. The Tigers scored their first goal at the 56:22 mark as Justin Moore sent a ball ahead to Adrian Chevannes. Chevannes rifled a shot near the right post into the net for his first goal of his Clemson career.

James Georgeff scored his second goal of the season with 71:53 gone in the match, narrowing the Wake Forest lead to 3-2.

Wake Forest outshot the Tigers 18-12 for the game, but Clemson outshot the Deacons 8-6 in the second half.

The Deacons' goalkeeper William Hesmer had four saves for the day. Clemson's Phil Marfuggi had three saves and Hunter Gilstrap registered two saves for the Tigers.

"I am very embarrassed in the way we played in the first half," said Clemson Head Coach Trevor Adair. "That is not what our program is all about. We decided to play in the second half, but it was too late. The damage had already been done. We stress to our players the importance of playing 90 minutes and now they know. We also know that our backs are against the wall. We have to play hard all 90 minutes in these upcoming games."
