No. 15 Men's Soccer Draws With Boston College, 1-1

Oct. 16, 2005

Box Score

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The No. 15 Wake Forest men's soccer team jumped out to an early 1-0 lead over Boston College, but were not able to keep the lead and settled for a 1-1 tie in ACC men's soccer action Sunday afternoon. The Demon Deacons registered back-to-back ties for the first time since Sept. 19 and 24 of 1999.

Wake Forest attacked the Eagles right out of the gate, getting on the board at 16:33. Freshman Michael Lahoud spotted senior All-American Justin Moose streaking alone down the sidelines. Moose fed a cross to Mark Ellington who powered it home for the early lead.

The goal for Ellington was his team-high eighth of the season. The junior midfielder continues to excel in his first season as a starter. Ellington, who started just a single match and scored only three goals over his first two years, leads Wake Forest in points with 17. He ranks fifth in the ACC in goals and seventh in points. Moose and Lahoud shared the assist. The assist was Moose's seventh of 2005 and 27th of his career -- increasing his school record.

Boston College evened the match in the 60th minute. Freshman Reuben Ayarna sent a perfect volley to Sherron Manswell who collected it brilliantly and fired a blast into the lower corner. It was Manswell's ninth goal of the season and Ayarna's second assist in two games.

The ACC league-leader in saves, Issey Maholo, stopped six shots on the day for the Eagles. Demon Deacon goalkeeper Brian Edwards was also solid in net. The sophomore recorded six saves on the afternoon.

Wake Forest, who was facing Boston College for the first time in school history, outshot the Eagles, 11-10, on a day when wind gusts approached 25-30 miles per hour.

Wake Forest will return to action Wednesday evening against Southern Conference foe Appalachian State. Kickoff with the Mountaineers at Spry Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
