Final Stats

Columbia, S.C. - - The seventh-ranked Wake Forest men's soccer team blanked 25th-ranked South Carolina 4-0 on Sunday afternoon in Columbia, S.C. Scott Sealy scored two goals and Adam Hakes contributed one goal and one assist as the Deacons won their third in a row, improving to 7-3 on the year.

Wake Forest scored first with a goal in the 30th minute by Sealy. Freshman Steven Curfman crossed the ball into the six-yard box where Sealy put a foot on it. The ball skidded through the Gamecock defense and trickled over the line for a 1-0 Wake Forest lead.

Sealy would later score the team's third goal in the game's closing minutes off a rebound following a corner kick.

After a two-goal performance against High Point on Tuesday, it was Sealy's fourth goal this week.

Later in the first half, the Deacons padded their cushion with a goal by Tomy Szczypiorski, his fourth of the season. William Hesmer passed to Ryan Caugherty who served a looping long ball over the South Carolina backline and Szczypiorski ran onto it, beating the keeper to make it 2-0.

The Wake Forest lead could have been greater as halftime as both Curfman and Sealy had laser shots sail just over the crossbar. The Deacons outshot the Gamecocks in the first half 9-1.

In the second half, Szczypiorski was robbed three times from point blank range by South Carolina's goalkeeper Brad Guzan.

Sealy scored again in the 86th minute. The Deacons lined up for a corner kick. Matt Koh's ball found Adam Hakes. His header clanged off the crossbar but Sealy popped in the rebound to give Wake Forest a 3-0 lead.

Moments later and just 1:18 before the end of the game, South Carolina failed to clear the ball out of its own end. Hakes was the only Deacon in the area but the ball fell to his feet. He lined a shot in the bottom left of the goal for the finishing touches on a 4-0 victory.

It was Wake Forest's largest margin of victory ever against South Carolina and the win evened the all-time series at 10-10-5. The Deacons captured their first win in Columbia since 1995, snapping a three-game winless streak at Stone Stadium.

It was South Carolina's fifth straight loss after seven straight victories to start the year. The Gamecocks fell to 7-5.

Wake Forest returns to action on Wednesday night in Winston-Salem. The Deacons face off against the Long Island Blackbirds at 7 p.m.
