WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- Six different players scored goals as the Wake Forest men's soccer team drilled Charlotte 8-1 on Wednesday night at Spry Stadium, the most goals scored by a Demon Deacon team since 1997.

The Demon Deacons (7-3-1) got on the board in the 17th minute on Jeremiah White's seventh of the season from James Riley and Vicente Bastidas. Twenty minutes later, Wake Forest doubled the margin on James Riley's header off a Brian Carroll corner kick as the teams entered halftime with the Deacons on top 2-0.

It appeared as though the 49ers (4-5-2) might claw back into the contest when they scored less than five minutes into the second half. But that's when the floodgates opened as the Deacons scored three goals in less than five minutes, two of which came from ACC Player of the Week Scott Sealy and another from White.

That made it a 5-1 game but the Deacons weren't finished. Christian Lonteen, Stephen Keel and Ryan Caugherty got into the act in the middle portions of the second half.

When the dust cleared, 11 different Deacons recorded either a goal or an assist. Sophomore midfielders Brian Carroll and Vicente Bastidas both tied a school-record in the game with three assists.

Sophomore goalkeeper William Hesmer manned the cage for the first 76 minutes and needed to make just one save. He gave way to junior Brad McEachern who played the final 14 minutes and also made one save.

The Demon Deacons continue their eight-game homestand at Spry Stadium on Saturday night against Old Dominion at 7:00 p.m.
