Box Score

Greensboro, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's soccer team played its second double overtime contest in as many games and came away with a 1-0 win on the foot of freshman Stephen Keel and his first collegiate goal in the 112th minute.

With less than nine minutes left in the second overtime, Bobby Gehring took a throw-in and played it into the penalty area to Vicente Bastidas. He headed the ball over Spartan goalkeeper Charlie DeMello to Keel whose half- volley into an open cage was the decisive goal.

"I saw Vinny head it over (Sealy) and it just fell to my feet. I did what was natural and just kicked it," Keel, a native of Littleton, Colo., said. It was just Keel's second career game after playing limited minutes last week against Gardner-Webb.

The two teams combined for just 20 shots in the game's 111-plus minutes of action, just six in the second half. Quality scoring opportunities were limited for both Wake Forest and UNC Greensboro throughout the game. The best chance for the Demon Deacons prior to Keel's gamewinner came in the first overtime when Kelvin Jones' header off a corner kick floated high of the cage.

Sophomore goalkeeper William Hesmer made some outstanding saves particularly late in regulation. He finished the game with eight saves and his third shutout of the season.

As they did at Maryland on Sunday, the Demon Deacons played minus four starters. Wake Forest hopes to be at full health when they host ACC rival NC State on Sunday afternoon at Spry Stadium. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
