#2 Wake Forest Whitewashes William & Mary, 2-0

Oct. 2, 2002

Final Stats

Winston-Salem, NC - The second-ranked Wake Forest men's soccer team notched its third straight shutout victory with a 2-0 win over visiting William & Mary Wednesday night at Spry Stadium. The Demon Deacons are still undefeated on the season at 7-0-2 and have established a four-game home winning streak.

Wake Forest continues to receive offensive production from its bench. Both Deacon goals against William & Mary were scored by reserves. Ryan Alexander scored in the 33rd minute and Jeremiah White found the back of the net in the 83rd. Wake Forest's last five goals have come from substitutes.

Alexander's goal against the Tribe came at the 32:14 mark with assists to Adam Hakes and White. For Alexander, it was his team-leading fourth goal of the season. The freshman from Southfield, Mich., has now scored in three straight games.

Just moments after halftime, the Deacons had a chance to stake a two-goal lead when Hakes was dragged down in the penalty area. But Vicente Bastidas' penalty kick was saved by Tribe goalkeeper Trevor Upton.

Wake Forest broke through for a second time in the 83rd minute. A Kelvin Jones throw-in bounced around in the penalty area, eventually finding White. He one-timed it through traffic for this third goal of the season.

The Demon Deacon defense was solid once again. With three straight shutouts, Wake Forest has not allowed a goal since the 15th minute of the St. John's game on September 21, a span of more than 375 minutes.

The Deacons travel to Cary, N.C., for a Saturday night matchup with ACC rival NC State. Wake Forest will attempt to improve its conference record to 3-0 for the first time ever. Kickoff at the SAS Stadium is set for 7:00 p.m.
