The Wake Forest men's golf team turned in a final round 292 to finish fifth at the Long Cove Collegiate
Invitational, while Deacon sophomore Bill Haas (Greer, S.C.) also finished fifth in the individual standings.
The 54-hole tournament, featuring 15 teams, took place at par-71, 7,026-yard Long Cove Golf Course.
Georgia Tech captured the team title by finishing with a three-over 855, 16 strokes ahead of second-place Southern Cal. Clemson finished third at
872, Oklahoma State was fourth at 874, while the Deacons were four strokes behind at 878 (+26).
Haas triple-bogeyed the par-3 No. 8 hole to finish the final round with a three-over 74. After entering the day in second place, Haas dropped to
fifth, finishing even for the tournament at 213 (67-72-74). Southern Cal's David Oh won the event with a seven-under 206 (68-69-69).
Deacon junior Brent Wanner (Chatham, Mass.) finished 24th after turning in a 77 on Sunday, finishing eight-over for the tournament with a 221
(72-72-77). Junior Chris Yoder (Ashland, Ohio) improved his standing, turning in a final-round 70 to finish 26th with a nine-over 222 (78-74-70).
Senior Jay Morgan (Choctaw, Okla.) and junior Chad Wilfong (Thomasville, N.C.) finished tied for 53rd after both turning in rounds of 74 on
Sunday.
The Long Cove Collegiate Invitational was the final tournament of the fall for the Demon Deacons. The Wake Forest men's golf team swings back
into action February 18 at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
