HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -
Wake Forest's Bill Haas (Greer, S.C.) fired a four-under 67 to position himself in first place after one round
of the Long Cove Collegiate Invitational, taking place at Long Cove Golf Course. The sophomore, who is currently ranked No. 1 in the country,
was four-under after the first six holes on Friday, including an eagle on the par-five No. 6 hole.
As a team, Wake Forest sits in six place with an 11-over 295. Texas currently leads the 15-team field after carding a four-over 288 on the
par-71, 7,026-yard course. The Deacons are just three strokes out of second place, as Clemson and Oklahoma State are tied for the second spot
with an eight-over 292.
Deacon junior Brent Wanner (Chatham, Mass.) is in ninth place individually after shooting a one-over 72 on Friday. However, the remainder of
the Deacon lineup struggled in the first round, as senior Jay Morgan (Choctaw, Okla.) and junior Chris Yoder (Ashland, Ohio) both shot a 78 and
are tied for 59th. Junior Chad Wilfong (Thomasville, N.C.) turned in an 82 to end the day in a tie for 71st.
Wake Forest returns to action on Saturday for the second round of the tournament, and will wrap up on Sunday with the final 18 holes.
