Men's Golf Tied For Fifth At Carpet Capital Collegiate

The Wake Forest men's golf team finished the first round of Carpet Capital Collegiate with a first round score of 301, 13-over par. The Deacons trail leader Georgia by 11-strokes. Freshman Dustin Groves and sophomore Sean Moore each shot a one-over par 73 on Friday. The two are currently in a tie for 11th.

Freshman Chris McCartin added a five-over par 77 and stands in a tie for 37th individually. Freshman Webb Simpson shot a six-over 78 for the Deacons, and junior Kyle Reifers added a seven-over par 79.

University of Georgia's David Denham fired a three-under par 69 to lead all golfers individually. Georgia as a team shot a two-over par 290 and is followed by New Mexico (+7, 295), host Georgia Tech (+11, 299), and Duke University (+12, 300).

Wake Forest sits in a tie for fifth with Auburn at 13-over par, 301. Vanderbilt is seventh with a 14-over 302. Clemson and Tennessee are tied for eighth at 15-over par. Florida and East Tennessee State, each 17-over, 305, sit in a tie for 10th.

The Carpet Capital Collegiate is a 54-hole event which began on Friday and concludes on Sunday. This event marks the final fall event for the Demon Deacons before resuming play in February.
