Trumbull, Conn. - Wake Forest golfer Brent Wanner was named Golf World's Collegiate Player of the Week in the publication's upcoming October 5th issue. The junior from Chatham, Mass. won his second career tournament when he held off teammate Bill Haas, Clemson's D.J. Trahan and Ohio State's Doug Wade by one shot to win the title at the Ping Preview last weekend. Wanner shot a three-under 210 (69-70-71) on Ohio State's Scarlet Course, site of this season's NCAA Men's Golf Championships.

Wanner's score at the Preview propelled the Demon Deacons to a second-place team finish, just one stroke back of champion Clemson.

Wanner finished in the top 10 in five tournaments last season in addition to winning his first tournament title at the 2000 Duke Classic last fall. The two-time All-ACC selection is listed among Golf World's "50 Players to Watch" for the 2001-02 season.
