Former Deacon Greats Returning For Pro-Am

Sept. 22, 2004

Seven former Wake Forest All-Americans headline a list of former Demon Deacon golfers participating in the annual Wake Forest Pro-Am Monday at Old Town Club in Winston-Salem.

Monday's event begins with a private clinic at 9:15 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 10 a.m. The awards presentation is slated for 2:30 p.m.

Among the former Demon Deacons scheduled to participate: Billy Andrade, Bill Haas, Len Mattiace, Robert Wrenn, Lanny Wadkins, Joe Inman and Leonard Thompson. Andrade and Mattiace played on Wake's 1986 NCAA championship team. Wrenn and Thompson played on three ACC championship teams. Inman had second-, third- and fourth-place finishes in the ACC championships in the late 1960s.

The Pro-Am actually begins with a Sunday evening reception on the Wake Forest campus at the Haddock Golf Center. Wake Forest teams and individuals from the 1960s will be honored including the 1963, 1967, 1968 and 1969 teams that captured ACC championships. Three ACC individual medalists -- Johnny Harris (1966), Charles Snipes (1967) and Lanny Wadkins (1969) will be in attendance.
