Men's Golf Tied for Fifth at Carpet Capital Collegiate

Rocky Face, Ga. - The Wake Forest men's golf team is tied for fifth after the first two rounds of the Carpet Capital Collegiate Tournament being played at The Farm in Rocky Face, Ga.

The Deacons, ranked 23rd in the preseason poll, are among 10 teams in the nation's top 25 competing in the tournament this weekend.

The Deacons are tied for fifth along with Duke at 13-over 589. South Carolina is the team leader at four-over 580. The Gamecocks are followed by Auburn (+9, 585), Georgia Tech (+10, 586), and Alabama (+11, 587).

Wake Forest on Saturday was led by Brendan Gielow who is tied for fifth at one-under 143. Gielow fired rounds of 72-71 on Saturday after Friday's first round was postponed due to rain.

Georgia Tech's Chesson Hadley is the individual leader at 10-under 134. Hadley posted rounds of 65-69 on Saturday.

WFU's Chris McCartin is tied for 23rd at +3, 147. McCartin posted a 72 in Saturday's second round. Dustin Groves is tied for 28th at +4, 148 after rounds of 73-75.

Travis Wadkins is tied for 45th place at +7, 151. Wadkins scored a 73 in Saturday's opening round then fired a 78 over the final 18. Preston Yates is 88th after a pair of 81s on Saturday.

The 54-hole tournament concludes on Sunday with 18 holes.
