Jonesborough, Tenn. - The Wake Forest men's golf team is in third place after two rounds of the Bank of Tennessee/The Ridges Intercollegiate Golf Tournament, the opening event of the season for the 2001-02 Demon Deacons. WFU shot a 12-under 564 as a team on Saturday's 36 holes, combining a two-under 286 in the first round with a 10-under 278 in the second. TCU leads the 15-team field with a 22-under 554 after two rounds, while Southern California is in second, just four strokes ahead of Wake Forest.

Deacon sophomore Bill Haas is tied for second place after rounds of 69 and 66 on Saturday. His 36-hole score of nine-under 135 is two strokes back of TCU's Adam Rubinson, who is currently in first place. Two other Deacons are among the top 20 on the leadernoard after two rounds. Junior Chad Wilfong turned in rounds of 70 and 71 for a three-under 141 and is tied for 12th. Junior Buck Williams is tied for 15th with a two-under 142 (72-70).

WFU senior Jay Morgan ended the day strong with a one-under 71 and is currently 36th with a two-over 146 for the day (75-71), while junior Brent Wanner turned in rounds of 75 and 76 and is currently 58th with a seven-over 151. Junior Cortland Lowe is comepting as an individual, and is tied for 69th with a nine-over 153 (79-74).

The final round of The Ridges Intercollegiate takes place on Sunday. The event is being held at The Ridges' par 72, 7,038-yard course.

This season Wake Forest returns everyone from a team that finished 10th at last year's NCAA Championships.
