Simpson Take First Place In Key Amateur Event

June 14, 2006

JOHNSTOWN, PA -- Wake Forest junior Webb Simpson shot a final round of 67 Sunday, including a clutch birdie on the 18th hole, to finish first in the 53rd Sunnehanna Amateur Golf Tournament last weekend.

Simpson, a second team All-American, finished the the 72-hole event 4-under par (276) to edge Seung-Su-Han, who shot a final round 66, and Tripp Kuehne, the third round leader who finished with a 73. Both Seung-Su-Han and Kuehne tied for second place at 3-under-par 277. Chris Kirk took fourth place at 2-under 278 and Jason Day of Australia and Jarred Texter both finished 1-under-par 279 to tie for fifth.

The Sunnehanna Amateur Tournament for Champions was started in 1954 and annually attracts one of the best fields in amateur golf.
