Wake Forest golfer Webb Simpson was named to the Freshmen All-American Team and the Raleigh rookie joined junior teammate Kyle Reifers on the All-Region Team. Both honors were announced today by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Simpson was joined on the national All-Freshman Team by Mark Anderson of South Carolina, Stanford's Rob Grube, Pablo Martin of Oklahoma State and Dawie VanDerWalt of Lamar. Simpson and Reifers were two of 15 players named to the All-South Region Team.
Simpson, the ACC Freshman of the Year, leads the Demon Deacons in stroke average. Simpson and Reifers were both previously named to the All-ACC Team.
The Demon Deacons begin play tomorrow (Wednesday) in the NCAA Championships near Baltimore. Wake Forest is one of 30 teams competing for the NCAA title.
