WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest is one of only 11 schools in the nation
- and the only ACC school - to have both its men's and women's golf teams
advance to the NCAA Golf Championship. The women's event begins today in
Sun River, OR, while the men's tournament starts next Wednesday in Opelika,
AL.
The Deacon women, coached by Dianne Dailey, advanced to the NCAA
Championship by finishing tied for seventh at the NCAA East Regional in
Columbus, OH, on May 11-13. The WFU men's team, coached by Jerry Haas,
placed 11th at their East Regional in Moosic, PA, last weekend to advance.
In both the men's and women's tournaments, the top 11 teams advanced to the
finals out of the East region.
The other schools to have both men's and women's teams at the NCAA Golf
Championships are: Arizona, Arizona State, Auburn, Georgia, Northwestern,
Oklahoma, Pepperdine, Southern California, Texas, and Texas Christian.
