Wake Forest shot a 16-over par 296 and is in 12th place out of 27 tightly-bunched teams at the NCAA East Regional at the Yale University Golf Course in New Haven, CT.
Demon Deacon senior Bill Haas, recently named as the Ben Hogan Award winner, shot a 3-under par 67 and is tied with Rhode Island's Kenneth Fahey for first place in the individual standings. Haas, already on pace to set an NCAA record for stroke average, had four birdies to go with one bogey en route to the 67.
The Demon Deacons are just two shots behind a pack of four teams, including ACC rivals Duke and North Carolina, which are tied for eighth place. Wake Forest, in fact, is just 10 shots behind tournament leader Florida.
The top 10 teams in the 54-hole East Regional earn a berth to the June 1-4 NCAA Championships in Hot Springs, Va.
Florida (+6) leads SEC rival Georgia (+7) by one stroke, followed by Clemson (+8) and Georgia State (+8). Twenty-two of the 27 teams at the East Regional are within 20 shots of the Gators.
Wake Forest freshman
Sean Moore, who recently won the ACC individual championship, shot a solid 2-over 69. First team All-ACC selection
Kyle Reifers turned in a 7-over 74.
The second of three rounds continues Friday.
