Simpson, McCartin Named First Team All-ACC In Men's Golf

May 4, 2007

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Wake Forest juniors Chris McCartin and Webb Simpson were named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference men's golf team today, extending an impressive Demon Deacon streak and putting Simpson in elite company.

The 12-member All-ACC men's golf team, announced by the league office, was selected by the conference's head coaches.

Wake Forest has placed a minimum of two players on the All-ACC team for seven consecutive seasons. The Deacons have placed at least one player on the team in each of the last nine seasons.

Simpson, a Raleigh (N.C.) native, becomes the ninth player in Wake Forest history to earn All-ACC honors at least three times. He is joined on that last by list by four-time honorees Billy andrade, Bill Haas, Gary Hallberg, Brent Wanner and Robert Wrenn, and three-time selections Jerry Haas, Eoghan O'Connell and Kyle Reifers.

McCartin was named to the All-ACC team for the first time.

Four Atlantic Coast Conference teams - Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech and Wake Forest -- placed two players each on the 2007 All-ACC men's golf team.

Clemson swept the 2007 ACC individual awards with freshman Kyle Stanley named Player and Freshman of the Year, while Larry Penley was named Coach of the Year for his ninth such honor.

Florida State junior Jonas Blixt was an automatic member of the ACC team as the 2007 medalist winner.  Fellow teammate Matt Savage, a sophomore, earned All-Conference honors for the first time.

Georgia Tech and Wake Forest were each represented by two players.  Georgia Tech senior Roberto Castro earned his fourth straight accolade, while Georgia Tech sophomore Cameron Tringale  earned his second such honor.  Tringale was named the league's freshman of the year in 2006.

Rounding out the 12-member team are seniors Martin Ureta, a third-straight honoree from North Carolina and NC State's Jerry Richardson, his first All-ACC team accolade.  In addition, Virginia and Duke placed first-time honorees in sophomore Conrad Von Borsig and freshman Adam Long, respectively.

Since the ACC began compiling an all-conference team in 1975, Wake Forest has produced 64 All-ACC selections.
