Deacons In Seventh Place At ACC Men's Golf Championships

UWHARRIE POINT, NC - With one round remaining, Wake Forest is in seventh place at the ACC Men's Golf Championship at the Old North State Club. The sixth-ranked Demon Deacons are 22 strokes off the lead.

 

Duke and Georgia Tech are tied for first place with a 36-hole total of 583 (+7). NC State (592) is in third place, followed by Clemson (593), Virginia (602), Florida State (603), Wake Forest (605), Maryland (618), North Carolina (619) and Virginia Tech (623).

 

The final 18 holes will be played Sunday on the par 72, 7,102-yard layout in Montgomery County.

 

Junior Kyle Reifers leads Wake Forest with a 76-74--150 (+6) to tie for 16th place overall. Junior Doug Manchester and freshman Webb Simpson are both at 152 (+8) and are tied for 21st place. Defending ACC champion, sophomore Sean Moore, recovered from Friday's 81 with a solid 74 today to tie for 34th place overall. Freshman Chris McCartin is in 37th place with a 77-79--156 (+12).

 

Duke's Ryan Blaum, who is at 5-under (139), is threatening to run away from the field. He is four shots in front of Georgia Tech's Roberto Castro and Clemson's Jack Ferguson (-1, 143). Virginia's Brad Tilley, who is at even par 144 and in fourth place, is the only other golfer not to register black numbers for the tournament.

 

Wake Forest, which owns more ACC championships (18) than any other team, is looking for its first ACC title since 1989.
