Jerry Haas Earns Spot In Wachovia Championship

March 23, 2004

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest's Jerry Haas will compete in the 2004 Wachovia Championship. The Deacon head coach won a qualifier on Monday to earn a spot in the PGA TOUR event, which takes place at Quail Hollow Country Club in Charlotte, May 6-9.

Haas participated in the "Class A" qualifier for Carolinas PGA professionals at Firethorne Country Club in Waxhaw, N.C. Haas won the event with a two-under par 70, claiming one of two spots for the Wachovia Championship. He was the only player to shoot under par at the qualifier, carding a 35 on both the front and back nines and reeling off four straight birdies during the round.

Haas, who competed on the European, NIKE and PGA tours from 1988-96, will participate in his first professional event since qualifying for the 2002 U.S. Open. He is in his seventh season as head coach of the Demon Deacons, who are currently ranked 19th nationally.

This year's Wachovia Championship falls during Wake Forest's final exam week. The Demon Deacons will have wrapped up their regular season at that point and will be preparing for NCAA Regionals May 20-22.

Tickets for the 2004 Wachovia Championship are currently on sale. For more information on the tournament, visit www.wachoviachampionship.com.
