Wake Forest sophomore Webb Simpson is getting his first taste of professional golf this week, participating in the PGA Tour's Bay Hill Classic.
Simpson shot an opening-round 3-over par 75 on Thursday. The Raleigh native had four bogeys and one birdie today on the par 72 course. He finished strong, going one-under for the final five holes.
Simpson will have to continue riding his wave of momentum on Friday if he is to make the cut. He is nine strokes behind tournament leaders Dean Wilson and Bart Bryant.
To put Simpson's scored today in perspective, he is tied with John Daly, Mark O'Meara, David Duval and former Deacon Len Mattiace. He posted a better score than Stewart Cink (76) and Brad Faxon (78).
