Deacons Improve By 12 Strokes But Remain In 13th Place

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -  Wake Forest improved by 12 shots in the second round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate here Saturday, but the Deacons remain in 13th place out of 15 teams. The final 18 holes are scheduled for Sunday at the par 72, 7,510-yard Southern Highlands Golf Club.

 

The 14th-ranked Demon Deacons shot a cumulative 303, 15-over par today, but could not make any ground of the rest of the stellar field that includes 13 nationally-ranked teams.  Wake Forest is within eight shots of the top 10.

 

Defending NCAA champion and No. 1-ranked Georgia and tournament host UNLV are tied for the team lead with a 36-hole total of 13-over par.  UCLA is two strokes back in third place and Oklahoma State is three shots out in fourth place.

 

Deacon senior Kyle Reifers shot a 5-over par 77 today. Through 36 holes, Reifers is 9-over par and tied for 39th place. Senior Doug Manchester fired and even-par 72 today, improving 10 strokes from Friday. Sophomore Webb Simpson, who shot a 76 today, is tied with Manchester for 47th place at 10-over. Junior Sean Moore is 13-over through 36 holes and is tied for 36th.  Sophomore Chad Wilcox shot a 79 today and is 18-over for the tournament.

 

Georgia's Chris Kirk fired a 5-under par 67 today to take the overall individual lead with a cumulative 4-under par score. UCLA's Daniel Im, the only other player in the tournament under par, is two strokes back at 2-under.
