Deacon Golfers Hope To Roll To Low Scores In Vegas

March 7, 2006

Wake Forest's men's golf team will face its stiffest challenge of the 2005-06 season March 10-12 when it joins eight of the nation's ten highest-ranked teams at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship in Las Vegas.

The Demon Deacons are ranked 14th nationally. They'll join 14 other teams at the 54-hole event, played at the par 72, 7,510-yard Southern Highlands Golf Club.

The stellar field will include No. 1-ranked and defending NCAA champion Georgia, No. 2 Georgia Tech, No. 3 Florida, No. 4 Oklahoma State, No. 5 UCLA, No.8 Duke, No. 9 Arizona State and No. 10 and tournament host UNLV.  The tournament field also includes No. 19 Texas A&M, No. 21 Clemson, No. 23 (tied) Arizona, No. 23 (tied) New Mexico, Texas and Washington.

The teams will play 18 holes each day, beginning Friday.

UNLV, which shot a cumulative 9-under par, won the team title last year. Seven-under par won the individual crown. Live scoring available at www.golfstat.com.

Wake Forest will send an experienced lineup to Sin City - seniors Kyle Reifers and Doug Manchester, junior Sean Moore and sophomores Webb Simpson and Chad Wilcox.
