Webb Simpson, one of the nation's top college freshmen golfers, was named to the Watch List for the Ben Hogan Award, which is presented annually to the nation's top college golfer.
Wake Forest's Bill Haas won the Hogan Award last year.
Simpson, a Raleigh (NC) product, leads the team in stroke average (71.93). In five career tournaments, the freshman has finished in the top-20 four times and in the top-10 once.
Simpson made quite an impression on the college golf scene last fall when he shot a 68 in his first career round and tied for third with a 5-under 211 in his first collegiate tournament. Ranked 16th nationally by Golf Week, all 15 of Simpson's rounds have counted toward the team score.
The most prestigious award in men's college golf, The Hogan is presented annually to the top men's NCAA Division I, II or III, NAIA or junior college golfer taking into account all collegiate and amateur competitions during the last 12 months.
Simpson is one of five ACC players on the Hogan Award Watch List.
