Golf Takes 14th At Rain-shortened Iron Duke Classic

Wilfong fires final-round 74 to finish tied for 15th.

DURHAM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest men's golf team carded a final-round team score of 308 to finish 14th of 18 teams at the Iron Duke Classic, played on the par-72, 7045-yard Duke Golf Course in Durham. The tournament was shortened from 54 to 36 holes due to steady rain on Sunday.

The Demon Deacons finished the event with a 36-hole score of 612, or 36-over par, which put them 26 strokes behind team champion Duke (586, +10).

Freshman CHAD WILFONG shot a 74 in the final round to finish tied for 15th place at 5-over par, and sophomore JAY MORGAN carded an 80 to drop to 31st place at plus-8. Freshman BRENT WANNER recorded a 76 to place 43rd (+9), while freshman BUCK WILLIAMS shot a 78 and placed 72nd. (+14) Redshirt freshman CORTLAND LOWE posted an 82 to finish in 80th place (+18).

The tournament marked the conclusion of the fall 199 season for Wake Forest.
