Men's Golf In 12th After One Round Of Iron Duke Classic

Rain shortens tournament to 36 holes.

DURHAM, N.C.-- Sophomore JAY MORGAN shot an even-par 72 to stand in fifth place as the Wake Forest men's golf team is 12th of 18 teams after 18 holes of play at the Iron Duke Classic golf tournament. Due to steady rain on Sunday, the 54-hole event has been shortened to 36 holes, with just 18 played on Sunday and 18 on Monday. The tournament is being contested on the par-72, 7045-yard Duke Golf Course in Durham.

The Demon Deacons carded a team score of 304, or 16-over par, in the rain on Sunday, and they stand 19 strokes behind team leader Duke (291). Morgan is in a five-way tie for fifth place individually, two strokes behind the trio in the lead - Georgia Tech's Bryce Molder, Old Dominion's Michael Hospodar, and Florida Southern's Wayne Raath (all shot 70s).

Freshman CHAD WILFONG shot a 75 and is tied for 27th place at 3-over, while freshman BRENT WANNER carded a 77 and is tied for 46th. Freshman BUCK WILLIAMS and redshirt freshman CORTLAND LOWE both shot 80s and are tied for 67th place.

The tournament concludes with the final 18 holes of play on Monday.
