The Wake Forest men's golf team dropped one place in the standings to finish second with a score of 853 at the Jerry
Pate National Intercollegiate, held at the par 71, 6,958-yard Old Overton Golf Club.
After shooting a combined -13 under par for two rounds on Monday, Wake Forest turned in a 14-over 298 in Tuesday's final round, falling two
strokes behind team champion Oklahoma State. The Cowboys turned in a one-over 285 on Tuesday to finish at one-under 851 for the
tournament. Clemson finished third, seven strokes behind the Deacons at eight-over par.
Deacon sophomore Bill Haas (Greer, S.C.) finished in third place overall with a 54-hole total of six-under 207 (71-65-71). Haas has finished third
or better in three of four tournaments this season. He finished just two strokes behind individual medalists D.J. Trahan of Clemson and Hunter
Mahan of Oklahoma State, who tied for first with a eight-under 205.
Wake Forest placed three other competitors in the top 20, as junior Brent Wanner (Chatham, Mass.) and senior Jay Morgan (Choctaw, Okla.)
both tied for 13th with a two-over 215. Both shot 75s on Tuesday after turning in rounds of 69 and 71 the first day. Junior Chad Wilfong
(Thomasville, N.C.) recorded his third straight top 20 finish, tying for 18th with a three-over 216 (70-69-77).
Junior Buck Williams (Raleigh, N.C.) rounded out the Deacon scoring, placing 55th with a 22-over 235 (82-73-80).
As a team Wake Forest has finished in the top three in the last three tournaments. The Deacons will play one more tournament this fall, as they
travel to Hilton Head, S.C. to compete in the Long Cove Collegiate Invitational from Nov. 9-11.
