The Wake Forest men's golf team turned in two rounds under par on Monday and currently sits in first place heading
into the final round of the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, held at the par 71, 6,958-yard Old Overton Golf Club. The Demon Deacons have a
two-round score of 13-under 555, nine strokes ahead of second place Oklahoma State and Arizona. After leading the 12-team field with a
five-under 279 on the first 18, the Deacs solidified their position in the standings with an eight-under 276 in the second round on Monday.
Deacon sophomore Bill Haas (Greer, S.C.) leads the field individually with a six-under 136 after two rounds. He is two strokes ahead of three
players tied for second place. After carding a 71 in Monday's first round, Haas turned in a field low 65 in the second round, just one stroke shy of
his career low.
Wake Forest has four players currently listed among the top 10 on the leaderboard after Monday's action, the only school to do so. Junior Chad
Wilfong (Thomasville, N.C.) is tied for fifth with a three-under 139, turning in a 70 and tying his career low with a 69 in the second round. Junior
Brent Wanner (Chatham, Mass.) and senior Jay Morgan (Choctaw, Okla.) are tied for 10th place with a two-under 140. Both turned in identical
scores of 69-71 on Monday.
Junior Buck Williams (Raleigh, N.C.) rounds out the Deacon lineup, currently sitting in 54th place with a 13-over 155. Williams rebounded with a
two-over 73 in the second round after starting off with an 82.
The final round of the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate takes place Tuesday.
