Wake Forest Golfers Finish Seventh at Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate

JOHNSON CITY, TENN - Wake Forest shot a final round 295 and fell to seventh place at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges in Johnson City, Tenn. on Sunday.

North Carolina and Virginia Tech tied for the team title with a 12-under par 852 total. UNC was awarded the team title due to a pre-tournament ruling that any ties would be broken by comparing the scorecard of each team's fifth player.

Tennessee's Chris Paisley claimed medalist honors with a 10-under 206. He followed Saturday's course record 64 with an even par 72 on Sunday. Maryland's Chris Gold and Kent State's John Hahn tied for second at eight-under. Gold turned in the day's low round at 65. Wake Forest's Webb Simpson was tied for fourth with UNC's Robert Riesen at seven-under 209.

The Deacons, ranked 13th in the nation, were the second round team leaders after Saturday's 278 team score.

Simpson finished as Wake Forest's low scorer on Sunday with a four-under 68.

Sophomore Brendan Gielow finished 12th at four-under 212. He shot a three-over 75 on Sunday.

Senior Chris McCartin carded a 77 on Sunday and finished tied for 44th place at four-over 220.

Junior Dustin Groves finished at five-over 221 to tie for 51st place. Groves shot 75 on Sunday.

Freshman Chris Cannon had a 78 on Sunday and finished tied for 71st with a 10-over 226.

Rob Barrow, playing as an individual, had his best round of the tournament with a 76 on Sunday. He finished with a 241. Freshman Justin Bryant had a 75 on Sunday and finished at 226.
 

 

The Deacons will return to action Oct. 21-23 when they play in the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational at Isleworth Country Club in Orlando, Fla.
