Wake Forest Moves Into First Place at Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate

JOHNSON CITY, TENN. - The Wake Forest golf team fired a team total 278 on Saturday to move into first place in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges in Johnson City, Tenn. on Saturday. Through two rounds, Wake Forest is at 12-under 564.

The Deacons were in third place after Friday's first round total of 286.

Saturday's charge moved 13th-ranked Wake Forest in front of first round leader East Tennessee State and second place Kentucky.

Wake Forest will enter Sunday's final round with a one shot lead over ETSU (-11, 565) and a three shot advantage over Virginia Tech (-9, 567).

Brendan Gielow led Wake Forest on Saturday with a five-under 67. He is tied for second among individuals with a seven-under 137. Chris Paisley of Tennessee tied the course record with an eight-under 64 on Saturday and sits in first place at 10-under 134.

Wake Forest was able to count four sub-par rounds on Saturday. Webb Simpson fired a one-under 71 while Dustin Groves and Chris McCartin each shot two-under 70s.

Chris Cannon shot a three-over 75 but was saddled with a nine on the 17th hole.

Simpson is tied for 11th overall, McCartin is 21st and Groves is in 40th place.

Justin Bryant and Rob Barrow are each competing in the field as individuals. Bryant is at seven-under 151 through two rounds. Barrow is at 165 after 36 holes.
