ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Sophomore JAY MORGAN shot a career-low 66 in the final
round of play to earn a fourth-place finish as the Wake Forest men's golf
team placed eighth of 17 teams at the Purina Missouri Classic golf
tournament. The event was played on the par-71, 7047-yard course at
Missouri Bluffs Golf Club.
The Demon Deacons carded a 4-under 280 on the final 18 holes for a
54-hole total of 865, or 13-over par. That put Wake 13 strokes behind team
champion Kansas, who shot an even-par 852.
Morgan, who won the Cavalier Classic earlier this fall, shot
71-72-66 to finish with a 4-under 209 for the event. He was just two
strokes behind the individual medalist, Kansas' Ryan Vermeer.
Freshman CHAD WILFONG nearly earned his first career top ten
finish, placing 11th at even-par after shooting 73-73-67. Freshman CHRIS
YODER, playing in his first collegiate event, placed 64th at 12-over par
(74-79-72), while redshirt freshman CORTLAND LOWE (79-72-75) and junior
JAMIE GALLACHER (77-73-76) both tied for 67th place at 13-over.
Wake Forest is back in action on Oct. 17-18 at the Duke Golf
