The Wake Forest men's golf team improved by seven strokes on the second day of competition at the Carpet Capital
Collegiate, but remained in third place after 36 holes of the event, which is taking place at The Farm Golf Club. The Demon Deacons shot a
four-under 284 as a team on Saturday, and with a two-day score of one-under 575, are just three strokes back of second place Tennessee heading
into Sunday's final round. Host Georgia Tech continues to lead the 15-team field with a 14-under 562.
Four Deacons are currently listed among the top 20 on the individual leaderboard, as senior Jay Morgan (Choctaw, Okla.) and junior Brent
Wanner (Chatham, Mass.) are tied for 11th place with a one-under 143 after two rounds. Morgan shot a 73 on Saturday to go with his first-round
70, while Wanner shaved seven strokes off his score, going from a first-round 75 to a 68 on Saturday. Morgan and Wanner are six strokes back
of field leader Troy Matteson of Georgia Tech, who has turned in rounds of 68-69 for a score of seven-under 137.
Sophomore Bill Haas (Greer, S.C.) is in 14th place, one stroke back of the Wake Forest leaders at even par 144. Haas has carded a pair of 72s
in the first two rounds.
Junior Chad Wilfong (Thomasville, N.C.) rounds out the top 20, as he is tied for 20th with a two-over 146 (75-71). Another Deacon junior,
Cortland Lowe (Augusta, Ga.), sits in 29th with a five-over 149. Lowe carded a 75 on Saturday to go with his first-round 74.
The Carpet Capital Collegiate concludes on Sunday with the final 18 holes.
