Men's Golf Tied For 13th After Second Round of NCAA Championships

OWINGS MILL, Md. -- - The Wake Forest men's golf team shot 13-over par for a two day total of 20-over in the second round of the NCAA Championships, Thursday morning at Caves Valley Country Club. The Demon Deacons enter the third round of the tournament tied for 13th place with Florida.

Georgia leads the field with a two-day total of 2-under, while Tennessee and Georgia Tech follow in second and third place, respectively. Duke, the other ACC team, is tied for fifth in the 30 team field.

Junior Doug Manchester led the Deacs on the second day of competition, shooting 1-over. With a combined score of 140 (2-over par), Manchester is currently in a tie for 21st in the individual championship. Pepperdine's Michael Putnam leads the field at 6-under.

Freshman Chris McCartin was th only other Wake Forest player to improve on the second round, shooting a 73 -- a six stroke improvement from the first day. Sean Moore shot 5-over, while Webb Simpson put up a 78 for a two day total of 8-over.

Wake Forest will return for the third round of play Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. The field will be cut to 15 teams after 54 holes.
